God is not in Scientology - an admission, again

Scientologists, like any faithful, need to promote their slant on life. As they grow in apparent strength, their voice becomes more insistent. John Harvey of AOSHUK, as letter registrar and having spent 38 years in the Scientology Sea Org, can be considered one of the prophets of Scientology, expouding the inner truths.

John sent me two articles, a “Quote of the Day” and materials from the “Clearing Congress Lectures”.

Quote of the day and The Clear Defined

L. Ron Hubbard, in the Command of Theta Lectures, said, “Now, I’m going to ask you bluntly to reexamine some of your possible conclusions along this line: not because God is good, bad, not because one should be an atheist, not because one should be anything. But let’s take a look at it because the truth of the matter is that what you know of God, you know very intimately. Because that’s you. The life that beats in you and thinks in you and is in you connects up directly and is a part and parcel of an infinity which we could classify as the Supreme Being.”

Hubbard does not however teach about God or the understanding of God. In The Scientology Catechism, it says, “What is the Scientology concept of God? We have no dogma in Scientology and each person’s concept is different. Each person attains his own certainty as to who God is and exactly what God means to him. The author of the universe exists. How this is symbolized is dictated by your early training and conscience.” They further teach, “although the existence of the Supreme Being is affirmed in Scientology, His precise nature is not delineated, since the Church holds that each person must seek and know the Divine Nature in and for himself.”

Talking about “The problem of the universe and the life in it.” in “The Clear Defined”, after some discussion, Hubbard concludes, “Two elements here we’ve disposed of.” He goes on to state these two elements that the previous pages had elaborated upon, “All right. So we got the material universe and we got a body now, okay?” He continues, “Now, here’s the third one: The mind”. He then asks us to imagine a cat and then two cats facing each other and asks “What’s looking at it? All right. You are, hmm? Well, now we have to do with though and a thetan (being, soul), and that’s it. Four elements. The thing that’s looking at the cat; the cat (in the mind); the body and the physical universe. Those are the four elements of study, because the thing (you, the soul) that is looking at it can also think.”

Now for the heart of this topic,

“Spinoza would’ve had a few things to say about this. He said, “You have neglected one thing, and that is the creator of all this.” And I would’ve said to Spinoza, if we’d been on speakng terms, I would’ve said, “If you can find anywhere in this picture of the thing (soul, thetan) that looks at the cat, the body that surrounds all this, and the physical universe (the walls), if you can find anything else in here to experience that these elements cannot experience, I will accept whatever you have to offer as an addition. But so far, you have offered an idea, a creator. That’s an idea. And this is capable of ideas, so therefore, we don’t have any proof.””

So, here we have the spiritual leader and founder of Scientology saying that there is no proof in his experience of a Creator. This is what Scientology is all about. There is no teaching of God awareness that is so fundamental to Islam and theistic religions.

So, Hubbard says, “Anyway, the point is that our sphere of interest does not have to include any factor we cannot experience”. So, Scientology does not lead to an understanding of the Creator. An Hubbard reiterates in the next paragraph, “The point I’m making here is we (Scientologists) - it is not vital that we include the factor of a creator; see, its not vital that we include in this experience computation.” This makes Scientology fundamentally different to theistic religion such as Islam. A Muslim senses God in his or her daily life and strives to build on this God awareness. Just as you cannot tell a blind person how to see or perhaps prove sight to the blind, the sense still exists, and so does God awarness in millions of Muslims in their daily lives.

The materials on the Quote of the day and The Clear Defined were kindly provided by John Harvey of the Scientology Sea Org (life long full time servants of the Scientology religion).
